Kitchen Cabinets in Katonah, New York
The village that was moved — old houses re-set onto new foundations — and a showroom about nineteen road miles north where you can see doors that belong in them.
Katonah, and where we are.
Katonah is a hamlet in the Town of Bedford, in northern Westchester, about nineteen road miles south of us. Our showroom is on Route 22 in Patterson, at 3227 NY-22.
The village that was moved.
Katonah is one of the very few places in the country where an entire village was physically relocated. When New York City's reservoir system was expanded, the old village site was to be flooded, and the houses were moved to a new site rather than demolished.
That history matters to a kitchen company, because a large part of the housing stock here is of one era, was moved onto new foundations, and has been altered repeatedly since. Houses that have been lifted, moved and re-set do not stay square. Floors settle differently on a new foundation than they did on the old one. Walls that were jacked and rolled onto a new site lean in ways a house that was built in place never does. Ceiling heights change across a room. Additions meet original structure at awkward angles. For a cabinet order — which is built square — that is a layout problem before it is a style problem, and it is the single strongest argument for measuring in the room anywhere in this service area.
What that means at the cabinet level.
Out-of-square rooms, floors that run downhill, ceiling heights that change across a room, and additions meeting original structure at awkward angles. Cabinets are built square. This is the strongest argument for an in-room measurement anywhere we work — we come out, we measure it properly, and the layout accounts for what is actually there. Book the free measurement visit →
The style question.
Period houses and modern slab doors generally fight each other. The doors that read as belonging in an older Katonah house are framed and detailed — raised and recessed panels, inset where the door sits flush inside the frame, painted finishes, furniture styling. See traditional and classic cabinetry and the transitional Shaker middle ground. Be honest about the cost: inset is the most exacting way to build a door and it costs accordingly, and in a moved house it also has to be built to keep its reveal when the wall behind it moves.

We do not install.
We sell cabinets, we measure, and we deliver them. We do not install them, and we do not arrange anyone who does. You hire your own installer, and your contract is with them. This is deliberate: we have no installer on payroll to keep busy, so we have no reason to steer you toward anyone or to bundle a labor number into your cabinet price. You see what the cabinets cost, you see what the labor costs, and neither number hides inside the other. Read how to check an installer before you pay a deposit →
One note for Katonah homeowners hiring an installer.
Westchester County requires home improvement contractors to hold a county licence, and the Department of Consumer Protection can confirm one at (914) 995-2155. It takes two minutes to ask. Our guide to hiring an installer explains how, and what a licence does and does not prove →
